Conservative MP Ann Winterton says that Counselling 'must be compulsory for women wanting an abortion'

A Conservative MP is seeking to change the abortion law to make women faced with unexpected pregnancies receive mandatory counselling. Ann Winterton, the MP for Congleton in Cheshire, also wants a seven-day "cooling off" period following meetings with counsellors. The reason is to make sure that women are not rushed into a decision to abort and that they take sufficient time to reflect before they finally decide on what they would most like to do.

The LifeLeague says: Whilst it may not go far enough for our purposes, this bill is nonetheless a very welcome 'one small step' in the right direction. If it is passed and becomes law, doubtless many babies will live who would otherwise have died. For that reason, we urge you to contact your MP and ask them to support Ann Winterton's private member's bill when it comes before the Commons on 05.06.07. Please also contact Ann Winterton and commend her on her bill.

Ireland Lets Girl Go to UK for Abortion.

An Irish judge ruled Wednesday that a 17-year-old girl in state care can travel to England to abort her brain-damaged baby. The case of ``Miss D,'' as the Dublin girl who is 4 months pregnant has been identified in court and reopened debate in this predominantly Catholic country over whether abortion should be legalized in certain circumstances.

The LifeLeague says: This is clearly another case of 'hard case makes bad law'. The pro-abortion forces who championed this mother's 'right' to kill, rather than ‘care for’, her disabled child care little about this girl's ‘rights’ or the health of her baby, all they are interested in is using these factors in order to weaken Ireland's abortion law.

Pro-abortionist Cites Severe Weaknesses of 'the Pill'.

Men don't have abortions. Men don't get cervical cancer, either. Look at me, boy genius: I managed to work that out for myself. In fact, a large number of things never happen to men. Does this prevent us from arguing over these things, from debating, legislating, or presuming a right to decide? If you take the question even half-seriously, you must live in a world where men who take vows of chastity do not hand out instructions on sexual hygiene and private morality.

The LifeLeague says: Whilst we may not agree with everything in Ian Bell's article, he does make a number of valid points and certainly succeeds in demonstrating the intrinsic weaknesses of the pill.

Amnesty International Official Discusses New Pro-Abortion Position

Amnesty International officials finally went public about their secret decision to change their long-standing position of neutrality on abortion. AI has adopted a new policy calling for abortions to be allowed worldwide when a woman is a victim of rape or her health is threatened by the pregnancy. AI also will call on the overwhelming majority of nations around the world that have pro-life laws prohibiting abortions to change them and make abortions legal.

The LifeLeague says: We are certain, once again, that this is yet another example of 'hard case makes bad law'. The pro-abortion forces behind Amnesty's decision to ignore their own members and back abortion rights care little for rape victims or women's health. Scenarios such as these are cynically and repeatedly wheeled out in order to begin a 'slippery slope' process toward full 'abortion on demand', and then eventually, 'abortion by command' – throughout the world. We will be confronting Amnesty every step of the way.
