Pro-Abortionists Make their Next Move in UK Parliament

The Draft Human Tissue and Embryology Bill has now been published. Within it the Government propose to remove the requirement for doctors to have regard for the need of any child they assist in bringing into the world through assisted reproductive technology for a father (clause 21). This proposal flies in the face of the wealth of research that demonstrates that a father is central to a child’s welfare. This role is different but complementary to that of the mother. Children deprived of a father often experience psychological, social and community disadvantages. This proposal is all about the alleged “rights” and demands of adults and nothing about the needs of children.

It also proposes that: scientists be allowed to create any variety of animal-human hybrid embryos for research purposes (clause 17); the Reproductive Cloning Act 2001, which banned reproductive cloning, be repealed and replaced by something far less clear cut (clause 16, para 15.5); and non-profit making bodies should be allowed to advertise in order facilitate surrogacy arrangements (clause 66).

The LifeLeague says: We urge all of our supporters, especially those from the UK, to make written submissions (opposing the above cited elements of the bill) by the 15.06.07:

Increased Threat from IVF in Britain

The number of women over 40 in Britain undergoing IVF treatment has increased more than tenfold over the last 15 years, according to statistics published by the Human Fertility and Embryology Authority (HFEA).

The LifeLeague says: our hearts go out to these women, many of whom are desperate for a child. We believe that they are being cynically used as 'cannon-fodder' by the pro-death lobby. Help us as we spread the truth about IVF to these women and everyone else in society. Please click here for LifeLeague's comprehensive article dealing with IVF.

Pro Death Lobby Defeated in the US House of Representatives

A bill designed to allow cloning of human embryos for destructive research while forbidding the birth of babies created in this way has been defeated in the US House of Representatives. The White House confirmed that President Bush would have vetoed the bill because it would have allowed the creation of embryos destined for destruction in stem-cell research.

The National Right to Life Committee explained that the deceptively named "Human Cloning Prohibition Act" didn't ban cloning at all, only the transference of cloned embryos into a uterus or its functional equivalent.

The LifeLeague says: We welcome this latest victory for our American friends and look forward to the time when we can celebrate similar victories in Britain.

Ethical Cell Research Vindicated Again - Stem Cell Research Shown to be Unnecessary

Separate studies in Japan and America were published in the journal Nature on Wednesday showing that embryonic stem cells can be made by reprogramming some of the genes in adult skin cells, without having to create an embryo. The results of work on mice are preliminary, and proof of principle, according to Rudolf Jaenisch, a professor of biology at MIT and member of the Whitehead Institute, leader of one of the groups.

The LifeLeague says: We welcome this latest moral victory for the pro-life cause, showing once again that science is one of our greatest weapons in the war against the death lobby.

Christian Institute in Freedom Battle Against SORs

The Christian Institute’s case against SORs will be heard in Belfast soon. We would urge you to pray for their success. The Lord has given us an ‘against the odds’, last minute deliverance from the jaws of militant pro-abortion legislation in the past. He can do it again. This case comes against the backdrop of a series of interesting developments.

Ian Paisley Jr MLA, a Junior Minister in Ulster’s Office of the First and Deputy First Minister, has had the courage to defy the chattering classes and pro-gay hysteria by stating that he disagrees with homosexuality, but doesn't hate gay people.  Quite how any group, regardless of how paranoid they might appear to be, can over react to Mr Paisley Jr's vocalising of a perfectly tempered, reasonable and moderate opinion is mysterious.  Evil forces are at work in our land, maliciously seeking to abolish freedom, criminalize 'thought' and persecute those who hold opinions different to their own.  Mr Paisley Jr's example is one that we should all emulate, standing up for that civil liberty open to all British people, whether gay or straight – i.e. an entitlement 'to offend' and 'be offended'.

We recommend that you contact Mr Paisley Jr and commend him on his bravery and urge him not to be browbeaten into retracting his comments. Please click here to do so.

Education Minister Alan Johnson MP has said that faith schools should not be allowed to teach that same-sex relationships are wrong. UCU, the largest lecturers union in the UK, have called for a ban on school’s promoting traditional marriage in sex education classes. We would urge you to click here and contact Mr Johnson, please remind him that Britain is still a democracy and values freedom of belief, religion and expression. Pray that this enemy of freedom fails in his bid to become Deputy PM, is removed from cabinet and loses his seat in the Commons.

Significant opposition to gay pride marches continues to mount in Poland, Latvia and Russia. Violent scenes erupted during a banned gay pride march through Moscow.  One of those hurt wisely commented that the march was unwise, appearing as foreigners intent upon 'rubbing (homosexuality) into the faces of the Russian people.  Whilst we may disagree with gay pride marches, we wholeheartedly condemn the excessive violence committed against Peter Tatchell and other pride march participants.  If their peaceful parade was banned, then the police should have enforced the law in an even handed fashion – protecting the marchers from attack, yet removing them in a sensible, measured and proportionate fashion.  Hatred and physical violence toward homosexuals is wrong - just as wrong as the ongoing hysterical witch hunts and attempts to criminalize and persecute those, like Ian Paisley Jr, who have the courage to publicly disagree with homosexuality.  Alan Johnson, by his anti-freedom sentiments, has shown himself to be part of the problem, rather than the solution.

Homosexuals, and those who disagree with them, need to appreciate the classical western values of moderation, fair play and freedom – thus learning from the mistakes of history.
