Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor Becomes Latest Church Leader to Speak Out on Abortion

Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor, archbishop of Westminster, has called on British politicians to study the Catholic Church's teaching on life issues: "I would urge all Catholics, especially those who hold positions of public responsibility, to educate themselves about the teaching of the Church, and to seek pastoral advice so that they can make informed decisions with consistency and integrity. The Catholic Church believes that every life has been created by God in his own image and likeness. This means that all life is sacred, with value and meaning at every stage and in every condition, from the moment of conception to the point of natural death. It is for this reason that the Church strongly opposes abortion because it is the taking of an innocent human life."

The LifeLeague says:
We welcome the bravery and words of the cardinal.  We suggest that you click here to drop him a message thanking him for his pro-life interventions, mark your messages FAO Cardinal O'Connor.

Teenagers risk sex health crisis

UK teenagers are facing a "sexual health crisis" fuelled by alcohol, drugs and risky sexual behaviour, a report warns.  They are "defining their lifestyle" by this behaviour, encouraged by celebrity culture, the Independent Advisory Group on Sexual Health and HIV says.

The LifeLeague says: Unfortunately one of the solutions advocated by this study was a wider availability of condoms.  Please click here to contact Baroness Joyce Gould of the Independent Advisory Group on Sexual Health and HIV and remind them that chastity and morality will always be a better solution than the modern contraceptive myth of 'sex without consequences' (as fostered by condoms).

Jeffrey Donaldson MP slams call to align UK abortion laws

An Ulster MP has slammed calls in Parliament for UK abortion laws to be extended to Northern Ireland.  Jeffrey Donaldson, DUP MP for Lagan Valley, was quick to slam down any suggestions of liberalising the rules in Northern Ireland.

He said: "Evan Harris (Liberal Democrat MP) needs to understand that there is widespread opposition to any move to extend 1967 Abortion Act to Northern Ireland.

"This is a matter for the Northern Ireland Assembly to decide, not a matter for Dr Harris who has no mandate here."

"The DUP will vigorously oppose any move to liberalise the laws in this part of the UK and it is difficult to see how there would be any changes without our support."

The LifeLeague says: We commend Jeffrey and his pro-life colleagues for their continued support for our campaign to keep 'Back Door Abortion' out of Northern Ireland.  Please click here to contact him and commend him on his excellent pro-life stand.
