Pope takes Blair to task over abortion

Tony Blair received a tough dressing down from Pope Benedict XVI during his audience with the pontiff over abortion, gay adoption and stem cell research.

The LifeLeague says: We commend the pope on telling Mr. Blair a few home truths.  He leaves the office of Prime Minister with the blood of thousands of innocent babies dripping from his complacent hands.  He may have escaped the justice of man in this life, but, unless he repents, he will not escape the justice of God in the next.

VICTORY: Decreasing Number Of Irish Women Are Traveling To The U.K. For Abortions

The number of Irish women traveling to the U.K. with the purpose of having an abortion has dropped in the past five years. According to figures recently released by the British Department of Health (DoH), just over 5,000 women headed to Britain to terminate their pregnancy, a fall of 1,600 cases from 2001.

The LifeLeague says: We welcome this latest trend, it shows how serious the pro-life community are seeking, not only to engage in political lobbying, but to change hearts and minds as well.  Let this victory inspire us all to keep up our work.

England and Wales abortion statistics increase by nearly 4%

Pro-life organisations and representatives of the medical profession have expressed concern at the latest abortion statistics, which show that the number of terminations carried out in England and Wales rose by 3.9% to 193,700 in 2006.

There was also a rise in the under-16 abortion rate, to 3.9 per 1,000 women, and among under-18s, to 18.2 per 1,000.

Abortion has been steadily increasing since it was legalised 40 years ago - there were 22,000 terminations in 1968.

The Royal College of Obstetricians said the rise was "disappointing" and showed a failure to deal with the problem of unplanned pregnancies.

The LifeLeague says: We would urge you to contact the Royal College of Obstetricians and remind them that the true solution to both abortion and unplanned pregnancy is chastity, responsibility and integrity.  They cannot have fact unless they are first prepared to have truth.  Please click here to do so.

Jeffrey Donaldson MP Vows DUP Will Oppose Gay Adoption

The DUP will oppose any proposal to change the law to allow unmarried and gay couples to adopt children, Jeffrey Donaldson has said.  The Department of Health is considering proposals to change the law to enable unmarried and gay couples to adopt.

But speaking on Inside Politics, Mr Donaldson said the DUP would oppose it.  "It remains my view that a married relationship is the best relationship for adoption, the DUP will vigorously oppose any move in Northern Ireland to introduce gay adoption.  We do not believe it is right that a child should be placed into a gay relationship."

The LifeLeague says: We commend Jeffrey Donaldson MP on his excellent pro-family values stand on this most important matter.  Please click here to send him a message of encouragement.
