Archbishop of Canterbury Calls for Tighter Aborton Laws

Archbishop Rowan Williams has called for tighter abortion laws as he signalled a tougher stance on moral issues by the Church of England. He said that Britain was a 'broken society' that could be fixed only with urgent action by the Government and the Church to restore a sense of moral integrity.

He added: 'The nation generally is getting more unhappy about the high level of abortion in this country. People are not happy about abortion as a back-stop to contraception. It's not like having a tooth out.'

The LifeLeague says: The Church of England has been criticised for failing to speak out on abortion in the past. Its new stance comes after it emerged that most women oppose efforts to liberalise the law. Whilst it doesn't go far enough, it is atleast an improvement. We suggest that you click here to contact Dr Williams and thank him for his recent comments, urge him to go further and drive home a consistant pro-life, family values agenda.

Bishop of Rochester Against 'IVF for Lesbians'

The Bishop of Rochester has spoken out against plans to make IVF readily available to single women and lesbians. New legislation due to be included in the Queen's Speech in November is likely to remove the baby's "need for a father" to be considered in IVF.

The LifeLeague says: We urge you to contact the bishop by clicking here, commend him on what he has said. Urge him to go further and oppose IVF as a whole.

British Poll Shows Most Oppose Late-Term Abortions

A new poll in England finds more than 70 percent of women there oppose late-term abortions and want the limits scaled back that currently allow them as long as 24 weeks into pregnancy. The survey also found that 90 percent of women want abortion practitioners to be required to disclose information about alternatives.

The LifeLeague says: We welcome this small step forward in the long term war against abortion. Our efforts are clearly paying off. Let this encourage us to keep up the good work.

Nicaragua Overwhelmingly Renews Total Abortion Ban: The Nicaraguan congress voted today overwhelmingly to renew the penal code's punishment of all abortions, striking down an amendment that would have created an exemption for "therapeutic abortion."
