LifeLeague to Target 'Shanghai Herbal and Acupuncture Centre', Kingsland Road, London
40 years after 1967, illegal abortions still blight the UK. A BBC undercover investigation has discovered that pills for getting rid of unwanted pregnancies are readily available on the black market. A Radio 5 Live Report followed up on internet chat room messages left by women asking for abortion advice. There was online discussion about special Chinese herbs being sold in East London.
The LifeLeague says: This serves, once again, to give the lie to the 1967 claim that legalising abortion would wipe out the hideous practice of 'back-street-abortion'. A BBC reporter, posing as an illegal immigrant, visited several Chinese herbal shops, saying she was 6 weeks pregnant. The Shanghai Herbal and Acupuncture Centre on Kingsland Road (London) offered to help her. The staff - Drs Shen and Wang - knew they were doing wrong: "You come in this shop, you are lucky. Do you understand. My boss does't like me to do this treatment, my boss thinks it is a risk. So my boss doesn't know. You understand?"
We will, within the law, be targeting Shanghai Herbal and Acupuncture Centre, along with Drs Shen and Wang over the next couple of weeks. Watch this space.
